Start your first capture
Choose the guide for your run
Solo keeps task setup, recorder control, capture and review with one person. The recorder and exported episode use the same durable contract as paired capture.
Solo capture phases
- Prepare. Put on the headset, confirm the room, consent and tracking volume, then define the title, task sequence and cues.
- Arm. Check the capture surface is ready. CERES proves local recorder storage before it enables the recording state.
- Capture. Start the run and perform the task only after the headset shows
REC. Pause, stop and retry controls stay in the Solo workspace. - Review and export. Finish the run, inspect the accepted take and export the completed episode from the Solo workspace.
Duet uses a capture director and demonstrator. The capture director prepares the run and observes recording health while the demonstrator performs the task in Quest.
- Prepare. The capture director creates the task sequence, then agrees the safety, pause and retry cues with the demonstrator.
- Pair. The demonstrator joins the session from Quest using the invitation or QR code and confirms the headset HUD is ready.
- Capture. The capture director starts the run and monitors the durable recorder while the demonstrator follows the task cues.
- Review and export. The capture director accepts the completed take and exports the episode after review.
CERES records Quest outward video, optional audio, head pose and hand joints for repeatable research capture. Decide who is directing the run before opening the headset, then check setup and system requirements and privacy and consent.
Choose a capture mode
- Solo is for one person capturing their own run. It uses the same task model and durable recorder, without a second browser, invitation or relay.
- Paired capture is for a capture director and a demonstrator. The capture director builds the task sequence and watches the live monitor while the demonstrator performs it in Quest.
- Viewer is for reviewing a completed dataset in the browser. It does not change the recording.
Prepare the room and the run
- Agree the task, safety stop, pause signal and retry signal before the headset goes on. Confirm that the observed person and everyone else likely to be recorded have consented as required by the study.
- Clear the camera view and arrange the object, chair or work surface in the position used by the task.
- Keep both hands in the headset's tracking volume for tasks that need hand data.
- In paired capture, open Launch > Capture director. In Solo, open Launch > Solo.
- Write a short run title, a description and the ordered tasks. Use an Open task when the director decides when the action ends, a Timed task for a fixed duration and a Pause for a deliberate break.
What gets recorded
The recorder writes the outward camera stream, microphone stream, headset pose and hand joints together. Missing sensor observations are recorded as gaps rather than copied samples. The live monitor may stutter without affecting the durable recording.
